Parlor Coffee is no ordinary coffee company. Sourcing their beans from global and sustainable growers, roasting with adaptive precision and doing it all with an artist’s eye, Parlor Coffee’s mission is to “source and roast coffees with character.” Their products are rich in history, intellect, emotion and flavor.
For their limited release of an Ethiopian heirloom varietal from the Illubabor forest, Parlor Coffee needed a box befitting the singular nature of the bean inside. First gathered in 1974 during the Jimma Research Center’s seed conservation expedition and cultivated forty years later in the Gesha Village in the countries southern western district, this coffee bean is special, just like this Base and Lid with an Insert box from Taylor Box Company.
The standout element of this structurally simple package is the beautiful graphic work by Franklyn, a Brooklyn based creative agency. The fine lines of the floral illustration were accomplished through a silk screen process, PMS-matched to the wrap color of the base. The gold geometric shapes and lettering were done with metallic foil stamp.
The perfect alignment of the artwork over the corner of the box was particularly challenging; both the silkscreening and foil stamping of the wrap blank and the wrapping of the lid must be positioned exactly right or the effect is destroyed. Taylor Box’s expert crafts people and our trusted print partners delivered on their quality promises for a beautiful end product.
Parlor Coffee favored the classic, cubist proportions of the final package, but had a more rectangular bag of beans. To ensure the contents wouldn’t flop, we developed a discrete, removable insert to hold the coffee.
The box further embodies the Parlor Coffee brand promise in that it is 100% recyclable. Even more, it is made of sustainably produced chipboard and Rainbow 70 paper from Ecological Fibers, an FSC certified paper, which often includes post-industrial and post-consumer fibers.
Eye-catching for in store and online merchandising, this package is as aspirational as the Parlor Coffee company, and elevates the bag of beans inside to a precious gift or keepsake.
